Smoke Treatment in Wollo Opal

Wello, Wollo, whatever you call it - this is the place in Ethiopia that is producing some interesting Opal. I have made comments about it in the past and I wanted to share with you what the experts are seeing at the moment.

The link below is a paper on the latest treatment given to Wollo opal - the result is not unlike Lightning Ridge Dark Crystal Opal so please be aware.

  1. hey did you know how to done this treatment please help me out i have many this smoked treated opal in bangkok i am wholeseller of this stone but i don't know how to treat i have to buy this stone from india but i need to do in here bangkok please help me out of this how do done this treatment if you know something abt this

  2. There is a multitude of this material to be seen on eBay. Some is being marketed as Lightning Ridge by a Welo dealer, another dealer from India is selling it as Welo Opal and in the treatment comment section calling the treatment "Smoked". The latter is honorable.
